I have a 1995 J30t that I absolutely love. I have gotten many tips/instructions from this site that have helped me save tons of money over the years. Recently, my odometer and trip have stopped working all together. Is there any fix for this?? Is it possible to replace the instrument cluster? If so, can I adjust the new cluster to the approximate mileage for my J? Any advice or instruction would be greatly appreciated! Help! Thanks!

Google searched and came up with this, among other responses.

My 1997 J30 odometer stopped working. It will start up every once in a while for about 3 to 6 miles and then stop again. The speedometer and tachometer work fine. Any suggestions?

I fixed mine by completely dismantling the cluster down to the odometer motor. I then lubed the motor through the gear with WD40 and it has been working for a week as good as new. It isn't easy and requires soldering but I am now a pro after taking it apart so many times trying different things. If you want me to do it, I would do it for $50 plus all shipping costs. Let me know by emailing [email protected]

Didn't know there is an odometer motor in there. Something more to look forward to. Any idea if it's related to a jammed/broken trip odometer, since it sounds like the two are linked?

Odometer failure is common. They seem to fail with greater regularity in colder climates. Mine failed approximatly 9 years ago. Easiest options are (a.) replace with a insrument cluster close to your mileage from salvage yard (b.)where legally permitted, replace with new cluster.

Are there any instructions on how to take out the old cluster and install a new one??

Don't know what car these instructions relate to, but this looks like a good place to start.

My odometer and trip meter recently stopped working on my 1997 J30 t (about 200,000 miles). Should I replace the odometer itself, or do something else? New ones are about $200 on eBay.
