When I turn on my lights the high beams stay on. Even without activating the high beam button. The high beam indicator light on the dash stays on all the time. Also all my corner lights/license plate light do not turn on. Could this be the cause of the headlight relay malfunctioning?

I am having a similar problem, plus my head lights will randomly turn off. Not both though, sometimes the left other times the right. Last night when I just got home they both went out and then back on.

Any Ideas??

The resoldering of the existing relay always works %100....

Do a complete cleanup of old solder, use PCB cleaner solution and use rosin core solder..

A new part just gets you a new relay with newer solder.. The onboard components rarely die..just the stress of age on the solder joints....

Yes, I have done this for my own 93 J30..

Thanks for all the info. I will try the soldering first. Now that I know what to even look for.

PS, will that also work for the door timer?

One last thing....Use proper wattage headlights on the J (55w is correct), anything more and you'll damage the headlight wiring harness.

yes..the solder issue is identical for the door lock timer.. You have a chance with resolder if the doorlocks are not completely dead..

There is a chance the relay on the timer board is burn out completely which does indeed happen due to a short..

Take it apart and investigate... Try resolder first...and if that does not work, you might actually be able to match the relay (usually jideco) to an equivalent on digikey.com or mouser.com to replace completely.

I have rarely seen a burnt out relay..so..cross your fingers with a resolder..

I seem to have similar problems with my headlights. Figure its the relay but it seems like things look different under my hood then the diagram shows of this 96
