When we were buying our '95 J30, the A/C went from blowing cool air to completely stopping working during the test drive. Fortunately the owner had just had the compressor replaced with a new one a few months earlier and the independent shop that did the work said they'd cover both labor and the compressor was covered under a 12 month warrantee.
The Shop tested everything: it had correct freon level, pressures checked out and compressor was running. After replacing the evaporator and cleaning everything, they finally only had the compressor left. They got a new (reman.) one and put it in and it's worked perfectly since. It was the first compressor, from the same company they get all their A/C parts from, that had failed.
So, having a professional get stumped on something they were sure was "working" is the bottom line here. I (and they) believe the compressor was pumping, but not putting up the flow needed for the system to cool, that's why the pressures checked out...
If you are stuck with the repair yourself, there are good prices on remans out on eBay by reputable sellers, also with 12 month warrantees -- as long as you follow and document the installation requirements (I'd have a pro do it to be sure).
Good luck!
