Hi, took it to the shop, they said I needed new high and low pressure hoses. I decided to do the UV kit and found there is a bolt missing from the compressor and that's where it's leaking from. It leaks out in a matter of hours! Does anyone know if I can replace this bolt or do I need a new compressor? It's not the mounting bolt, it looks like part of the compressor itself. Any advice would help out. Thanks.

Did the UV kit include a dryer?

After the bolt is replaced, proper procedure would be to evacuate the system, replace the dryer, then recharge according to the FSM with exactly the correct weight of R134a and the correct amount of the specified lubricant. However, it sounds like the system has been ope to the atmosphere more than once, so a remanufactured compressor may be required.

Do use a good automotice AC shop with experienced techs. I can't help to wonder if there are other leak points?

Also, read the trunk of your car.

Thanks for the help, it was just an O ring. Rented the Vacuum from AutoZone, got it done in 1/2 hour. Nice cold A/C now. I got my money back from the shop with no problems, guess they knew they were wrong! I can't believe in this day and age, some mechanics still try to scam people!!!!!

Im glad you got it working

I am very curious about the bolt you are talking about though. There are no bolts in the compressor(except for mounting and line securing bolts) of a 95 G20, there is a high pressure relief valve though.

I first thought it was a bolt but it wasn't, there is a hole on the compressor that looks like a bolt was missing, but apparently that's the way they come, after further inspection, I noticed it was leaking from the O ring on the low side hose which made it look like it was leaking from that hole.

So what did you do about the lubricant? How did you weigh the charge?

Uhoh breaking out the tough question

I have always wondered the accuracy and quality of 134A from a small can. How do you only inject the recommended 1.6Lbs? I don't think additional oil would be needed for only a seal unless some was lost or removed from the circuit.Given the year and probable mileage I would perform a temperature drop test on the receiver/dryer, since the circuit was exposed to atmospheric pressure and humidity and dissicant is 13 years old, you may want to think about replacing it for optimum performance.

I really don't know why they sell this stuff over the counter.

I used the 134. I spoke with a guy at the infinity dealership service department who told me I didn't need to worry about the oil, that it should be fine with the 134. He said to add 1& 1/2 lbs. I used the gauges on the vac that I rented. Don't know ho accurate it is but the air is better now than when I first bought the car in Feb.

The "Infinity" tech lied about the oil. Sure it wasn't the shop cleaner?

"Infinity" drives me nuts, oh well maybe he debadged it.

It wouldn't be the first time that someone may have provided a quick answer to a DIYer at a dealer.

Could have been a porter or a parts guy too.

I've got cold a/c so I'm happy. I am having other trouble with the car now. I have a rattling in the front drivers side of the car, I was told at the shop it was the throwout bearing so bought a clutch kit and had them install it. Now I get the car back 2 days later and it's still making the noise. It goes away when I push in the clutch. Now they are saying it's the input shaft bearing. They were telling me that there are several bearings in the transmission needing to be replaced. Something about the "rear" bearing and 2nd gear????? I'm wondering why they didn't tell me about this when they had the transmission out! I am curious if the throwout bearing or the input shaft bearing are the only things that could be causing this noise. It is really loud and stops when the clutch is pushed in. I am really upset after spending a small fortune on the clutch that now I have to pay more to fix this problem.

Well that suckssorry to hear about your S* luck.

Did you clutch kit come with a new release bearing?

Its pretty easy to check if the trans is out I don't know why they would not have.

Yes, it came with one. This input shaft bearing should do the trick right? I just don't want them to come back and say it's something else.

It might be it's hard to say with any certainty without hearing it.
