Just got a '95 Hardbody with a number of minor problems. This truck was previously owned by my cousin, who used it to learn standard on before "drifting" it into a guardrail. The truck is totally drivable, but makes a light grinding noise when the clutch is depressed with the transmission in gear. Normally I'd assume this is just a throwout bearing, but I'm not totally sure, since I was under the impression that the noise should appear any time the clutch pedal is pressed... not just in gear. There's no noise at all when the truck is in neutral. The truck seems to shift and operate fine. I'm guessing the clutch itself is now at the end of its life, but aside from the noise everything seems pretty much okay. I'm prepared to drop the transmission to do a clutch job anyway, just wanted some opinions on what the noise might be exactly?

I'd put money on it being the throwout bearing. I've had the same issue, and that's what it was.

As long as the truck shifts ok and runs good I would drive it. If the truck is a 4x4 replacing the clutch is a major job. The noise sounds more like a bearing on the front input shaft, could also be a pilot shaft bearing.

Luckily it's a 2wd, so it shouldn't be too difficult to get out...

The plan is to fix this truck up and sell it off fast, so I'd hoped to get all the little problems straightened out first to get the most money off it.
