B4 doing anything else, have the transmission oil FLUSHED by a service shop that uses a machine. Takes about 15 qt usually. Then, add a can of SEAFOAM varnish/gum remover. Drive it easily for at least 50 miles before deciding if it is gonna fit it. Varnish removal is usually quick. Even a tiny spec of stuff in one of the electronically controlled shift valves will cause the problem. Sudden Failures requiring overhaul do happen, but most shift related (like slipping/poor shift quality showing up over a few days are generally curable with fluid replacement and varnish removal.
