My recently purchased G20 started slipping going to third and fourth gears. It has 99,000 miles and everything else on the car and transmission works perfectly. There are no codes displayed, but I don't believe previous ownership had any transmission maintenance performed. Is there anything such as a fluid/filter change that could remedy or improve this situation? I see a number of products that claim to fix this problem. Is any of this legitimate? Or should I start shopping for a transmission rebuild?

Previous owner didnt do any maintenance on transmission because Infiniti doesnt call for ANY!!! The owners manual has NO maintenance intervals for fluid/filter changes under normal driving conditions.....NONE!!!! Infiniti says initial atf fill and filter are good for lifetime of the transmission.......what they dont tell you is that periodic fluid changes will double or even triple that lifetime!!!!!

Time to shop for a rebuilt transmission, unfortunatly.

B4 doing anything else, have the transmission oil FLUSHED by a service shop that uses a machine. Takes about 15 qt usually. Then, add a can of SEAFOAM varnish/gum remover. Drive it easily for at least 50 miles before deciding if it is gonna fit it. Varnish removal is usually quick. Even a tiny spec of stuff in one of the electronically controlled shift valves will cause the problem. Sudden Failures requiring overhaul do happen, but most shift related (like slipping/poor shift quality showing up over a few days are generally curable with fluid replacement and varnish removal.
