1995 d21 motor problems

alright im having problems with the garbage sohc motor. first off... it wont let me over 3500 rpm it just dies out and if i do get it up past that (down shifting).. it just dies out right away. when on the high way it randomly on uphills starts to loose all power and i drop speed fast. i am unable to make it past 120 kph. oil is fine/ collant is fine. runs fine. its a 1995 d21 4x4 4cyl. anybody had this problem or can anybody help me out?

also how hard is it to swap in a dohc ka24de in the d21. i have done the sr20 swap into a d21(twice) but dont have the funds right now for the engine. if anybody can help me out it might be woth my while to just swap the motor.
