I did a search and no one seems to have had very similar problem. I mash clutch and it makes a grinding whining noise and vibration (like a throwout bearing would), then move gearshift and it makes noise louder and harsher, then becomes more severe as you put it in gear. Sometimes there is resistance going into gear, but most times not. Once clutch is out in 1st gear the car seems to go fine after that and even seems to shift ok between gears. Sometimes the car acts completely fine. I'm sorry this is very hard to describe without actually hearing it but if you have any ideas I'd love to hear them. Especially ideas that do not involve removing transmission from car.

It did this about 6 month ago maybe 3 times and then never again until last saturday.

other info: this car was converted to manual (engine + transmission changed together) and was driven for a while with clutch pedal out of adjustment until I figured out how to get it adjusted correctly.thanks

the fact that the noise occurs when you push the clutch makes me think it is the throwout bearing. does it also make the sound when you shift normaly?
