Excuse me for being a f.. noob on this site, but right now I am fustrated.

My daughter just brought me her car and told me to fix it. The vehicle starts but then dies immediately afterwards. The check engine light is on. There is no increase in idle if the pedal is depressed. Originally the codes were detonation, cam, and knock which were supposedly fixed before the vehicle came to me, but I doubt it. I observed that it had the wrong tps, replaced it . I have yet to pull the new codes and inspect the dis cap, fuel filter and coil, which I will be doing as soon as it is light. I am wondering if you guys have any other suggestions to hekp me get her car running smoothly with minimal downtime. I prefer her NOT to drive my Z31's if I can avoid it.

timing, knock sensor, vacuum leak, fuel pump, fuel pump fuse or relay. Those are the only things that come to me right now.

Thanks, I did not think of testing the fuel pump nor knock sensor.

I have verified the fuel pump is good. Replaced the TPS, Replaced the Dis Cap. Replaced the Rotor. Replaced the fuel filter. I got the car to idle and run decent till warm, then it acts like a carbaration (sp) problem. Engine tries and will eventually stall. I have to fight the throttle from zero rpms to 3G. I have tried unplugging the MAF, and then the TPS but there is no diference. Went to AutoZone to get the codes read they do not have the adapter for it nor do they have a Haynes Manual. Is there a way I can manually pull the codes?

OK I found out how to pull the codes.where is the ECU located? IS there a site in which I can download a Haynes, I have the FSM but need to refererence a Haynes. Is there a CHTS on the 240SX like the 300ZX's?

it still kinda sounds like a vacuum problem...cause the engine only has vacuum present when it's at idle and cruise, so the hardest part to get past is the lower rpms, but once you get to the higher rpms your engine starts to stable out cause vacuum is decreasing, along with the fact that a little leak won't do quite as much with so much more air going into the engine.

I beleive it is safe to rule out vacuum. Sprayed all joints on the engine I.E. Intake to Manifold etc. Done a wet and dry compression test. Manually verified timing. Noticed that now the engine stalls in all ranges when the engine is a certain temp. It has to be computer related.

Anyway towed the car to the garage. I'll let them deal with it. Now to pray my daughter does not mess up my truck further.

if it does it at a certain temp then I'd look at the coolant temp sensor. That thing can make the engine run pretty weird, and also cause stalling.

Thanks for the input.

In my case we found that the distributer is dying. Tried a borrowed one, it ran perfect. Now to wait for a new one to come in from C.A.
