I've got a short somewhere in the keyed wire circuitry on my 95 240.

Here are the symptoms:

Turn of the car and the radio, clock backlight, and wipers stay on. Alarm is still getting power and won't arm. The radio is hacked into the cigarette lighter circuit (radio was stolen and wiring torn up, that was all I could do afterward to make it work). The cigarette lighter is now run on a constant source.

If I bang the door shut really hard on a cold day and it'll make everything go off. Warm days, it's on like donkey kong. won't turn off for anything.

This morning I was doing some stereo work and spent some time trying to chase it down while I was in there. I tried pulling the 6 pin plug from the key switch. No change.

I also tried pulling the plug from the alarm. No change again.

The wire that's staying hot is a White wire with a blue strip (16 ga) going into the 6 pin harness on the key switch.

Are there any devices that are known for failing and back feeding voltage into this circuit?

Any other ideas where I should look for the short?

First the ignition switch will always have one wire with power, its suppose to otherwise when you turned the key in the ign SWITCH it would not switch power to anything.

Second you need to search more. There are at least to other threads on the first page of NOM with the same problem.

I guess I left out the obvious...

The white 12 ga wire going to the key switch is also continuously hot... but since it's the power feed to the switch I figured that was OK...

And as for the other threads, the only one I saw was related to a different circuit... namely the feed of power to the idiot lights and turn signals. Neither of those are a problem for me... but after reading the thread I went back and rechecked everything listed just to be sure.

I didn't see any other relevant threads, but I'm not too proud to search again, I haven't given up on finding this problem yet.

The wiring diag does not identify the wires soldiered to the ignition switch it self. They end at the 6 pin connector. So post what color the white with blue tracer wire is at the 6 pin connector so I can reffrence my service manual.
