Hey Guys,

Just want to let you know that I did search, and find some Timing Tutorials on this site. The reason I'm here is because I feel that I have followed them fairly close if not exact and still having issues.

How my timing got off; I was working on the removing guides from my timing chain, when i put everything back together, my car did not start, I noticed i did not have the electric plugs plugged into the dis. so I plugged that in and the car still did not start. Going back on the tutorial, I missed a step and it was the step that you had to take of the dis. cap and make the marking on TDC. =(.

I went to the 240sx manual and read some more on the net. With the dis. in my hands i removed the cap, then aligned it according to this;

Once I was able to do that, and put everything back together, my car started. YAY, right? Wrong, because then it started, did not hold idle, and died =(.

Here is what it looks like when i set my crank at TDC. (excuse the small images, they are from camera phone)

I do not have a timing light either.

I'm really unsure of what to do, and I can not tell if I flooded my cylinders, as I read this can be an issue as well.

Finally figured it out. Thank God I have more patients than ever before.

This is what it says on the manual to do;

I was aligning the "Shaft Pin" with the Mark on Housing "Indented" (going by the image instead of the description text). After reading it several times a realized it says align "Marks" on shaft with "Indented" mark.

So I took out the distributor and aligned the marks on the shaft with the indent and used a sharpie to make a mark of where it aligned inner cap.(inner cap - is what I call the area without the cap on the distributor cause I do not know the correct term)

Put everything back together, the mark I had originally made on the distributor top part not the inner cap no longer aligned, now it looks more like the top image that reads "Distributor"

No more Timing Chain Rattle, since I removed the two guides, and I'm going to have to buy a timing light, because it seems that the response is slower, perhaps it's just me. Also when it's on parking, it's stuck and takes awhile for me to be able to put it into drive... lame.

Hope this helps!
