When I'm driving on regular streets in a little traffic, I noticed my car to start to idle at 1k rpm and then the temperature rises near the second line below the H line for less than a minute and then will return back to normal temps. This doesn't happen too often maybe once every couple of weeks. I usually just turn off my engine and turn it right back up and idles fine (in traffic). Any suggestions as to what could be the problem? I do not have an engine light on. Thanks

no, it idles normal and temp drops. (I don't think the solution was that I turned off and on my engine because the temp drops even when I don't turn off the engine). I sometimes turn it off just as a precaution and if I can (stuck in traffic or at a red)

open up rad cap and check the fluid level. dont go by the reservoir. engine light does not come on for all the codes even in california. how far does your clutch fan rotate when car is cold. should be only about 6 inches. your rad might be old and blocked with rust etc. I dont think the fan clutches go very often. do you have air conditioning.

check the radiator level when cold, also check the sensor for the gauge for corosion or a bad connection, im not sure quite yet that the engine is even overheating at all. how quick does it go up or drop?

i'll check the levels when i get off work today. Thanks. It takes less than hmmmm 10 secs to go up and then it drops a couple of seconds after that. very strange.
