I will soon be replacing the ignition switch in my car (electrical part only, not the lock and cylinder). From an earlier search, I have found that I shouldn't need to remove the sheered bolts (is this true?). What I want to know is whether or not I have to pull the steering wheel to replace the part in question. Anybody have any answers? Thankies.

Does the FSM mention any of this??? I think on the Q you can get to the actual switch without replacing the lock cylinder.

I didn't see jack <expletive deleted> about it in the FSM. In the steering section, it only mentions the major portions of the steering gear. In electrical, it only mentions the combo switch. I'm actually pulling the steering column covers right now (which are being difficult). I'll let you know what I find.

Thanks, wes! I found the last two screws holding the column covers together and, viola! Slipped right off. <- me So, no steering wheel removal necessary.

Anyways, right there on the left-hand side of the steering column in plain view was the ignition switch, big-@ss connector and all. After two smallish phillips head screws and a pinch/unplug of the connector, it was out with the old and in with the new! Plugged up the new switch, screwed it back into place, and that was all she wrote. The end result: my baby lives again!!!

What were the symptoms (if any) of the ignition switch going bad? I'm curious if that may be the problem I'm having, basically the starter is kind of draggy. Thanks
