Hey, I was wondering why this could be happening,

on the Daytime running lights, only the drivers side turns on, if I give the passengers side a smack, it turns on sometimes. If I turn the lights on, it works always, then I turn them off and the DRL on the passenger side is off, even if it was on before. Also, the drivers light is much brighter when the pass. light is out. What could this be? A ground maybe? Where does the ground wire attach to the body?

the most common problem is with the switch. the lights are very complicated. look up headlight in tutorial link in my signature. there are grounds right by headlights.

pretty sure the running light has a constant ground. when you turn on headlight you getting another source for 12v+ so it suggests problem with switch but it is a complicated mess.

This post is so there's a documented answer to this perplexing problem. I looked high and low on the internet as to what the cause of this Day-time Running Light (DRL) intermittent twice as bright light issue was and found nothing. i had to troubleshoot the issue with a Multi-Meter and traced it back to the the DRL Unit. I replaced mine and it solved the problem

If you have this same problem, the problem is almost surely the DRL unit.

Apparently they are prone to failure on all mid-90s Nissan's (Source: Auto Wrecker).
