1995 240sx engine hesitates during acceleration

Last weekend my car sat in the garage for a few days, then after changing the oil, it wouldn't start. I changed the spark plugs, sparkplug wires, distributor cap, rotor and then it finally started (after about 30 seconds of turning over..) but would hesitate noticeably on acceleration. Thinking it was the fuel filter, I changed that out but it had no effect. One thing that seemed odd was that the hesitation seemed random, not rythmic. Any suggestions on what to try next before I take it to a repair shop would be most helpful.

could be the auxillary air control valve...disconnect the connector with engine running...if the idle doesn't drop..problem found.
