The owner's manual for the 1994 Pathfinder says for heavy duty use of the vehicle to change the oil every 3 months.

Did anyone do this at any time for their 1994 or WD21? Was there any benefit for doing this?

It's a 19 year old truck.
It's probably a little late to start worrying about what the owners manual says.

Any API SN rated conventional motor oil will easily make it 5k miles in most conditions. I would shorten the interval if you do short trips without allowing the oil to get up to temperature once in a while or have mechanical problems (coolant entry into oil, etc). Otherwise, 5k miles is a breeze. This is a used oil analysis of 10.2k miles on SuperTech 5W-30 in a VG30E in a '95 Villager with 230k. The oil's condition is stupendous for the miles on the oil.
