Question guys. I am about to aquire a 1994 Q45's Stereo and Climate control. It was sucha a great price for the 2 that I couldn't pass up. This is my question. I need to know if the climate control head unit will work in my car. I mean it does have the same amount of buttons but it does look different on the front, not sure about connectors in the back. As for the stereo, I believe that the CD controls were actually incorporated into the head unit instead of having te seperate control as I do by the arm rest. Can I connect the CD player to the back of the New 1994 head unit, and will it work. I have heard that the stereo controlled a 6 dish Sony Changer whereas mine is a 10 disc stock Sony CD changer. Was this the year they changed the CD player from Digital to Analog?

Sincerely,I hope I have not wasted money ,Marlon:confused:

In my 1995 Q, the CD changer is still a 10disk unit in the trunk. So, I would assume it is the same for the 1994 Q too. In other words, it is probably not the 6 disk in glove-box version!

But I have no idea if what you are attempting will work ...

What I was trying to do was to either remove or replace the CD controller by the armrest and use the new head unit in it's place. Now I do know that there was a year in which they used a 6 disc changer neatly placed to the side of the truck wrapped in carpet, mines just hangs from the top of the trunk. I am going to post a picture. Let me know if your stereo and head unit look like this.

Marlon: I just put a 97 single play stock CD player into my 90. It fit perfectly, and the only modification required was for a $25 plug adapter that was purchased from carstereohelp.com. It works perfectly and the only difference I noted was that the track control changer for the tape, now controls the CD. All other controls work exctly as before. Don't know about your climate control situation. BTW, the car stereo installed in about 35 minutes--piece of cake. Doug

Thanks Doug. Was that adapter for the CD changer in the trunk? If so did they run the line from the cd changer in the rear to the back of the head unit instead if the cd controller you may or may nit have had down by the armrest.

Thanks in advance,

Marlon

I do not think a '94 head will work on a '91 changer. they use different signal logic

The adapter bridged the original wiring harness which plugged right into the back of the old radio into the newer "plug in" for the 1997 CD player. Nothing in the trunk or the armrest.

The 94Q has lots of changes, they tend to multiplex signals [digital codes on a bus] instead of using individual wires as the 90-93 did. Saves wire weight, adds complexity, but improves reliablility.

sO DENNIS, WILL THE 94 HEAD UNIT FOR THE STEREO take the signal from my 10 disc changer in the trunk? Also will the climate control head unit work, or how can I get it to work?

Never tried to do either type of conversion......why create more problems by redesigning things. Don't want to assume responsibility.

We have seen installed the J30 in dash cd and Maxima cd in early Q. We don't do stereo work other than like swap outs.

As to HVAC get both manuals and trace out the circuits and create the appropriate paths and circuits......seems uneconomical to me since you can get HVAC controllers repaired for $100-$150 or junkyard units for $200.

Heya Dennis, tried to catch either you or Byron at work today and you were off. The stereo shouldn't be a problem, I hope, going to take it to a local stereo shop that specializes in customized jobs. Now the HVAC head unit, that's a different story. I know of the guy that repairs them for $100 bucks or so, but I just don't know how reputable his work is and if he also includes the bulbs. If someone could let me know, I believe the name is Jerry Tucker, how his work is I'll probably go that route, but if it continues to snow here, I am not sure I could go without heat (as I did for so many months) for the time it takes to send it to him, have it repaired, and returned. Thanks a bunch!!
