I'm looking at a 94 Q with active suspension, it appears to be well maintained, however, active suspension scares me. Would someone give me some advice concerning what to look for????? thanks Billy

Obtain the Infiniti dealer performed service history first!

Then if all other personal inspections are satisfactory, have it inspected by an Infiniti Senior technician (one who was trained on the G50 at introduction in 1989). There are very few around.

For any active issues, read posts by texasoil and go to http://www.q45qsuspension.com

A vehicle made in 1993 [94 models] cares little about the miles driven when it comes to rubber components exposed to ozone and heat/salt/humidity.

12.5 years is quite a few beyond the legal design life of 7 years for ANY CAR.

As with any used car reserve $3,000 and for an active reserve another $6,000..............that way you won't be surprised and should have enough maintenance money to get thru the next 2 years.

The basic Q cost $2500-$3,000 per year ALONE to keep to STANDARD.

Run,dont walk.... away from an active model, unless you really understand the system and desire the marginal gains over a standard suspension model- keep looking til you find a good condition standard suspension model, there are plenty out there if you are patient!

.

A Q45 without Active suspension is like having sex without viagra.

They are both pretty good to begin with but the ride is enhansed with that extra addition !!!

You will get to know all about the ACTIVE if you "SEARCH" this forum. Most people are scared of the Active system 'cause they fear the unknown. Be brave and tackle it. Texasoil is only a phone call away.

By submitting the VIN to your friendly Infiniti service writer. If you don't have a relationship, this could be a no go. Infiniti CS will dictate one to you, but only after you are registered as the owner.

If you have the time, tools and willingness then go for it. If not, definitely don't. I fall into the latter and having the active has not been as enjoyable as I had hoped. The suspension is amazing, just takes some TLC and $$$ to keep up.

I guess my real hesitation is the perception of parts availability in the future. Then you have to factor there weren't many built, thus I must consider the availibility of qualified technicians. Im not a mechanic but over the years (58) i've become a pretty dayumn good parts changer. Im really not afraid to get the necessary procedures and taking my time and doing the job right. Am I over my head in considering active suspension? reading through some of texasoil's threads, it seems that once the accumulators are converted to be recharged and they are maintained they shouldn't be a problem?? or.............is this over simplified? What are the pro's v. con's

You have done your reading well.

Actually, almost all the JDM G50 were active.

Qualified technicians are always a challenge.
