I have a 1994 Q45 at around 208K miles on it. The car runs sluggish and it hessitates. I guess I need a tuneup. Here are my questions: - What should be in a Q45 tuneup, e.g. spark plugs, distributor rotor/cap (if it has one), and etc?

- What do you think about those Platinum spark plugs where you don't need another tune up for a long time?

- How about changing fuel filter, air filter, PVC filter, O2 sensor?

- How often should a '94 Q45 be tuned up?

I plan to bring the car to a non-dealer shop since I never repair my own car and have some money to burn.

Thanks,

Tough question to answer not knowing your maintenance history... but here goes

Change EVERY fluid and filter-motor oil, transmission fluid, rear axle lube, coolant, brake fluid, steering fluid, and trac control fluid if present- oil filter, Both transmission filters, air filter and oil filter

Replace PCV valve, o2 sensors, sparkplugs and valvecover gaskets, knock sensors and harness if throwing code, clean plenum, throttlebody, iac valve, egr system, MAF might as well change belts and rad hoses while you are at it and waterpump/thermostat if original.Check and replace idler pullys if original also

That ought to eat up around 3000+ of those dollars in your pocket!

replace ALL UNDER plenum hoses if knockers need changing

I suggest you take your car to the Infiniti dealer in Concord ca. Niello Infiniti. Independants are not going to be any cheaper. They have a master tech who has been there since '93. he knows his stuff.I had a carbon flush there and my '96 Q really perked up.Frontier Infiniti in SJ seems not to have the staff who can work on the older Q's.

Good that you have money to burn. If you have not done any maint. you will need 3K t0 6K to rehab and get back to oe. Remember it's a 50K car. Personally if you are not a DIY'er- trade in for a M45!

1.) Download an OM at http://www.nissan-techinfo.com/infiniti/ for free. The TSB and FSM will cost you a one day subscription.

2.) The OEM specified ones are the only ones to use.

3.) Air and fuel filters should be changed at least annually.

4.) See 1.) above.

You should seriously consider a trip to http://www.jerrytucker.net for the best bang for your buck.

You should also consider a mechanical ATF exchange and adding an auxialiary ATF cooler like a B&M 70268 or 70264.

http://www.bgfindashop.com for the former (read on these forums how it should be done), and http://www.summitracing.com for the latter.

Parts should be OEM from http://www.infinitipartsusa.com, expeciallly your remanufactured RE4 which I suspect you will have to replace because I bet your ATF is black.

I can only wonder about your suspension, brakes, PS fluid, differential, coolant.

maxnix,

The link to http://www.nissan-techindo.com/infiniti/ and http://www.bgfindaship.com do not work.

What is a reman. RE4?

I do buy parts at the Infiniti USA link you provided.

As far as the ATF cooler, where will it be installed and mounted to and can I pay a mechanic to do this? What is the advantages?

Thanks,

1.) Beware of typographical errors. Now corrected.

2.) Yoiur transmission type.

3.) Use the Search function and read some previous posts. There are pictures of various installations under my board name in the gallery. In brief, it stabilizes the thermal load on the ATF which has numerous long term advantages.
