I'm new to this forum and the Q45 so please take that in consideration when you respond and I hope that you do.

I recently purchased a 1994 Q45 with 178,000 miles on it. Car looks and drives like it was well taken care of..... I have a couple of issues that maybe someone can address for me. I'm amazed with this car....everything works great including the heated seats and the clock. Not that they are big issues.

The Slip, TCS, and ABS Lights come on. I read here that it could be related to the relays so I'm going to try to clean them first and possibly replace tomorrow since it is Sunday.

I believe that the struts need to be replaced. Can someone recommend a good source and is this a project that someone with half way decent mechanical experience can accomplish?

The valve cover on the drivers side is leaking. Is this a major job? Can someone point me to a website or guide that I can purchase to assist me with this job.

Thanks for your assistance......... Curt

Happy New Year!

You might want to look at http://www.q45.org...or up on top at our articles section and do some searches on what's wrong. There is alot of info here.

You can try switching the relays around and see which one(s) are bad, and check the codes in the computer via the above.

Do you have a Factory Service Manual (FSM) ?

Alright!!! Working on the Q on NYD

Get the TSB also, and do a search and post mechanical questions (after searching, please) in the Infiniti Mechanic Forum.

Like we tell all newbies, read the archived posts first (especailly all Q45tech posts), then a lot of your questions will be answered. And post pictures of your car when you have time.

Welcome aboard!

Thanks for getting me started. I know when your new to something your excited about your new purchase and no one wants to take the time to read. I've read the owners manual a couple of times and researched several other sites for answers. I'm in the middle of downloading the FSM which I hope will answer many of my questions.

In the mean time here are two brief ones if someone is on and wouldn't mind answering.

a) The two relay's that everyone is referring to.... I believe are related to the TCS and Slip. Why would they be under the battery? Or did I read that wrong. I appears that it would be too easy for them to become damaged or just get dirty from a bad or old battery.

b) I've looked several times for the Active Suspension Reserve as the diagrams depict and not finding it, so I must be missing it. I have the 1994 which is suppose to have it from again what I read. The car appears to sit a little high in the rear so I want to address that as well.

My first mission is to get the idiot lights off the dash, then the oil leak. I did see an excellent post on changing the gasket.

Being strickly a MB guy so far I'm impressed with this car. Will post pictures when we get a nice day in St. Louis to take them.

Thanks again for all the help.

Curt

a.) No place left on the active model.

b.) Are you sure you have an active?

I am not a computer expert, but the FSM file is about 37mb and will take a long time to download if you are on a dial-up modem (as you have already found out). You can buy a hard copy (the one that came with the car) from ebay but it is only about 6" X 8" and can be tough to read, especially with aging eyes like mine. If you own a computer you will eventually want to have the electronic copy. I use my hard copy (the "Bible") to thumb through and locate the pages I need but always go to the computer to read the selected pages.

My suggestion- If you have a flash drive (small lighter-sized memory stick that plugs into the USB port), you can download the FSB from another computer with a quicker connection (mine took about 3 minutes) and then transfer the files from the flashdrive back to your computer through your USB port.

If you don't own a flashdrive (128mb unit is about $30 or less from Best Buy) I suppose you could download to a CD but I'm not sure how many mb a CD disk holds.

When you are finally able to get a copy of and read the FSB it will clear up many of your questions. Good luck.
