hello. So I made the "mistake" of buying my son a 1994 q45 for his 16th birthday. Thinking it would be a good starter car. Was told it needed o2 sensors. But after taking it to my mechanic he flashed out the codes and it is saying 12(maf sensor). I have ordered 2 remanufactured one's neither work. My mechanic suggested finding a oe part but that seems to be impossible. The car smells like gasoline coming out of the exhaust and it doesn't want to stay running. As of now it won't even start because spark plugs are fouled. Can anyone direct me in a direction of where we can get parts. Honestly just trying to get it running good enough to sell it as a mechanic special. Tia

:welcome: to NICO! With a gas smell that bad, I wonder if your car won't start because it's hydrolocked? It's worth checking before you spend any more money on parts.

How much do you trust your mechanic's diagnosis? Codes from these old OBD1 ECUs can be more of a starting point than a true "here's what's wrong" issue. The part number for your sensor should be 2268061U00. Confirm that you have the square connector, and not the rounded one. I can't remember when they made the switch (mid 1994 or mid 1995?).

Your best bet is eBay, or www.car-part.com - also check our classifieds here at NICO.

It would be the square connector for all model year '94s. Even my 11/94 build (model year 95) still has the square connector.
For the OP, on a code 12, I'd start with the MAF wiring. very very common on these cars to have one or more of the 3 pins on the MAF connector broken/not making contact.
Not saying that is your only issue, but it could be a place to start.

The G50 series Q45 is an unforgiving car. They take a while to sort out, especially after years of neglect/abuse. But for the handful of well maintained examples that still exist, they are a fine example of late 80s/early 90s Japanese engineering, and I still enjoy driving both of mine.

Thanks. I totally trust my mechanic. He went through the process of testing other things also. Well the computer is throwing maf and also a knock sensor code. Fml...lol I never knew how complicated obd1 are. Thanks for the advice.

Since it seems your MAF is getting all the immediate attention, My suggestion to your mechanic is to map out the MAF voltages under a range of conditions. Including throttle position (while running), and RPM. The code 12 is just saying "look at the MAF in-depth". Need actual data.

Googling the part number provides a number of options for used MAFs and a few overseas sources for a new one (not cheap). As noted above, double checking to make sure the problem is not with the MAF harness connector might save you several hundred dollars - it's common for the connector to develop connection issues due to wear and corrosion.

What is the condition of your 1994 Q45? Color? You will end up putting mega bucks into that Q to keep it running. I have plugged 20 grand into my 1996 Q that I bought new. So I need parts.

Sorry it took me so long to respond. So it is in pretty good shape body wise. It is silver. The windows some don't go down and one won't go.up. but it has so much appeal to.it still. The person we bought it from said it needed oz sensors. We have order 2 maf sensors but both were remanufactured but my mechanic said one didn't even work and the other made no difference with the car. He said it is a mechanic special. That someone who has the know how and patience to find parts should have it. Dang its such a bummer but I am ready to just make what I can off it and cut my loses.
