Hi, I am a new 94 Q45 owner and I am planning to change the motor oil and I wonder where is the jacking point on this car, I have look under the frame but can't find one and I don't have any manual, so any information, picture or comment would be appreciated. Also what oil viscocity does the car take? Thank you in advance for the info and help.

I too just bought a '94 Q45 and the first maintenance thing I did was an oil change.

I used the frame rail as the jacking point, and it worked fine for me. The Q45 service manual shows a couple of points, depending on if you're lifting the car with a floor jack or something like a 4-point hydraulic lift.

Hopefully you have some jack stands that are a bit on the short side because I had to lift the car way in the air to get my 6 ton stands underneath.

As for oil, the manual recommends 10W-30 for most driving conditions, 5W-30 if temps are typically below freezing. The manual says the sump needs 6.375 qts if you replace the filter. That's 6 qts + 12 ozs.

Have fun removing the filter! It's in one of the most inaccessible places I've ever seen on a car. If you're looking down from the drivers side, the filter is under the power steering pump. It took me almost an hour to figure out how I was going to get my hand on the filter to remove it. I tried accessing the filter from above and below and found that removing it from below is the best way. Now that I've done it, I can do it again although it'll always be a hassle. Have some brake parts cleaner and lots of shop towels handy. Plenty of oil will spill out when you remove the filter. One of those square catch pans placed under the filter area would be a wise idea.

Hope all this helps!! Good luck and enjoy your car.

The front lift point is the crossmember just behind the oil pan. Check out http://www.nissantechinfo.com/infiniti for a copy of your owner's manual (or one from 1996). That should show a picture. Also, the oil capicity has been revised to an even 6.0000000 quarts with the filter replacement.

Good luck!

Hmmm... just noticed that the owner's manual doesn't show lift points...

Check out the attachment from the service manual.

Make sure you DO NOT have your jack on the oil pan or transmission pan or "POP" goes the motor mounts...hours of greasy fun to replace.

Regarding the oil filter...REMOVE FROM BENEATH THE CAR.

Also, oil filter wrench...$7.99 at Harbor Freight, item 36778-3VGA. They sell these at Walmart too.

You also need a can of spray brake cleaner to remove the oil dribbles [from filter removal] from hoses, frame etc. If you install the OEM filter with the correct torque and prelube the gasket you don't need a removal wrench.

Untrained owners and poorly trained mechanics/quicky lube employees are the cause of more Q45 damage than anything.

This is a car that demands a certified Infiniti Technican and a knowledgable well read owner!
