I have play in the kingpin area of the front steering knuckle. Is is usually the two bearings on the king pin or when the lower part of the kingpin inserts into the knuckle?

Check out this thread:

I think the part number you want is: 54590-66U26

According to the thread it comes with the kingpin and the bearings already installed, however if you didn't want to risk it you could just order all the parts and send back if everything comes pre-assembled.

Hi Wes and member,
Update. The part Wes cited above doesn't seem to be available with the bearings and kingpin as an assembled kit.
I found a donor car in the local Pick n Pull and snagged both R and L front suspension from upper control arms down the Lower control arms.
The third member, bearings and kingpin seem tight and not making any noise. The donor has 220k but these parts are newer, as they still have markings from the previous wrecking yard.

How I got to this point is my mechanic replaced the steering knuckle in March when he did the front wheel bearing, couldn't get the old knuckle off. Could they have installed the old kingpin too loose and caused a wobble? or did the kingpin bearings just fail?

I am considering installing this used third member but am thinking of refreshing the grease around the kingpin bearings. Good idea or not?

I concur on the part number, but it only comes with bearings, not the pin.
