I have a 1994 Q45 and need to replace the Fan Blower motor which is located behind the glove compartment and to the right of the Darlington Resistor (fan control amplifier). I showed a picture to my local mechanic and he says the metal horizontal piece blocks the removal of the fan and it would cost too much to remove/replace this fan blower motor and declined to do it. Is there instructions on how to remove this part? How easy or difficult is it to do and does this horizontal metal piece get in the way of the part removal?

Attached is the picture after the removal of the glove box. The round black thing is the fan motor.

once you remove glovebox and lower trim panel, the motor comes out in less than 60 seconds! 3 screws, and no the brace isnt in the way- did this repair a few months ago on mny 96q

It literally took longer to take kthe picture and upload it to the internet and write this post, than it would have taken to remove the motor, literally!

I took my motor apart, and cleaned up the lead brushes, and the motor ran for another 100,000 miles. My cost: $0.00

Thanks for your help. It took me about an hour to replace the Darlington Resistor (fan motor controller) and fan motor (new). I also did other mods I read about in q45.org.

I checked and did not have to clean the AC Evaporator which is behind the Darlington Resistor. I did do the Temperature Sensor Cleaning. I found these procedures on q45.org.

Here is how much I paid for the new parts (www.infinitipartsusa.com): - Darlington Resistor (Amplifier) PN: 27761-85E01, $63.15 - Fan Motor PN: 27220-67U00, $157.90.

I decided to buy a new fan motor since there is a possibility that the Darlington Resistor can be quickly damaged again.

The new Darlington Resistor and Fan Motor fixed my AC fan problem indeed. The problem is that the fan motor would not turn off even if the AC controls are off.

Here are some pictures to help anyone wanting to do the same procedures. I suggest looking at q45.org for the full details.

It was suggested to remove the kick panel just below the glove compartment. Do this by reaching at the bottom of the kick panel behind the light and pulling it down and out. Here is a picture of the kick panel:

Here is the two screws in front of the glove compartment. They are hidden behind round inserts tha can be removed by a flat screwdriver. The picture shows the inserts removed. Two inserts are shown after being removed.

After removing the kick panel, four screws (2 on each side) can easily be seen. These screws require strong hand torque to remove them and it is suggested that a 10mm socket be used to remove them.

Here is what it looks after the glove compartment is removed. The square like metel thing in the center of the picture is the Darlington Resistor and the round thing to the right is the new fan motor.
