Post

Hi there everyone.

I'm posting this topic to try and seek some help regarding our 1994 Mercury Villager minivan (with a Nissan Quest engine). The initial problem was the ignition switch - a problem which has been remedied. While I was away in the UK Dad worked on the switch and managed to start the van up and burn off the seven-month-old gasoline inside.

Today we put 1.5 gallons of fresh gasoline in the tank and attempted to start the minivan, and after several attempts it failed to turn over. We realized the fuel pump didn't seem to be 'ticking' and a long story cut short, we checked all the fuses and relays, and also checked the supply wire for the fuel pump. 12v is coming out of the fuse in the cab and out of the relay, however only 8v is reaching the fuel pump. Does anybody know why this may be? Might the fuel pump have died, or is it a simple problem of not having enough gasoline in the tank to initiate the fuel pump?

All help much appreciated! I want to be able to drive the van to Seattle from Vancouver, BC in just over a week - that won't happen unless we can get it started though.

That was the very first thing that was checked, it has not tripped open.

The problem is the fuel pump is only receiving 8v when it should be receiving 12v.

I dunno then, did u bypass the fuse / relay and use a jumper wire w/ its own matching fuse directly to the pump? 1.5 gallons is definitely enough to submerge the fuel intake screen/ sock.
He didn't ran it dry, thus maybe overheating the pump???
