it does sound electrical and checking all of the connections is a good idea.
I wonder if the Nissan mechanics had checked codes or if the USDM VE30DE is not familiar to them? You might ask him if they pulled the codes and if so, which ones came up.
My first guess would be one of the sensors is bad. Mass Air Flow (MAF), Throttle Position Sensor, Cam Position Sensor or possibly even the Coolant Temp Sensor.
Some people have problems with a car dying on acceleration and that is usually the coil packs. Even one bad one can cause stalling. However, it will usually start and idle fine. I had this problem before and put in new coil packs.
My coolant temp sensor also went out and it the car would run horribly and sometimes died. That one gave me a code, but the coil packs didn't.
MAF problems are fairly common. Most US owners just grab a spare from a junkyard car. However, when the MAF conks out, it usually runs OK, but goes into limp mode where the car won't exceed a certain rpm. I think it is 2k.
