anyway to tell what year the motor is from??on hondas you can tell by the head... its has production year on it? is this the same some where on the RBs?74260zt wrote:It was only the first production run of the R32 that had that collar issue. 90-91 I belive.....
On the rb26 there is a stamp on the head. Its on the exhaust side rear top of the head... where you bolt up an engine hoist hook. Theres 2 studs sticking out back there. Anyways is on the top where the valve cover gasket sits. Might have to clean it off. Mine said H5=1993. H6=94,H7=95ectcyris3d wrote:anyway to tell what year the motor is from??on hondas you can tell by the head... its has production year on it? is this the same some where on the RBs?
it makes a real cool sound when the oil pump starts to spin on the crank.... sounds like a cash regester cha ching...then you here the turbo impeller grinding on the housing... you just get a hole bunch of fun things to fix....it took me two turbos to figure it out... slow learnerTheSnail wrote:mine is also a 93. They made the recal in late 93.5+. I have yet to see if mine has the 33 crank. I guess I'll find out when I go for a topspeed run.
Take off the timing belt, oil pan and remove the oil pump. Then inspect the snout on the crank and the oil drive grear. It will be very obvious if it has one or not. Theres 2 ways that I know of to fix it. Depending on where you buy the collar about $350-$250 parts plus machining and install. Other way is to have it welded cost me $150 from crankshaftspecialist.com . Heres a pic of it after it was extended and machined. Now the cranks flats are extended and fit tight inside the oil pump dive gear. Before it had 10 thousands play.Audi180 wrote:How can i tell if my engine have the collar?it's about to arrive in the near weeks... (R32 RB26, i don't know the exact year...)should i disassembel the oil pan, or should i open the entire head?
if i won't have it, where can i get it, and how much will it cost?
What is the procedure of installing it?
thanks.Tom
To install the collar you will have to remove the crank from the block. You can buy the collar from rbmotoring for 250. Takakaira.com sells the JUN cran collar for 130+shipping from overseas. Theres a guy in Australia that sell them for 200 shipped look down toward the bottom. http://www.skylinesdownunder.c...ollar Someone here mentioned they had one machined. Remember that its going cost to install it. It doesn't slide on. The crank has to be machined then its pressed on. I'd get it welded.Audi180 wrote:do i need to remove the entire crankshaft in order to install the collar?
where can i get this collar?
thanks, Tom
