Greetings all;

I have 94 J30t with 91K miles. I noticed grease leak both left and right of the front. And after a quick look at it... it's my tension rod bushings all shot and leaking...

Where can I buy them and how can it be replaced? Is it simple as undo the bolt, replace bushing, and bolt back on? Let me know.

Thanks in advance.

Used rods can be bought at an auto recycler. If your looking new try a dealer or one of these boards sponsors. Its a part that is dealer only.

One of our sponsors is a wholesale parts manager at a dealership in Scottsdale, AZ. Call Joe at 1-888-216-5328. The bushings for the Q are around $15, I'd guess for the J would be about the same. Easy fix to get the rod in and out, not sure about the bushing itself.

Did you get just bushings, or the entire tension rods?

You may want to Check the bushing diameter if you are not the original owner before ordering

I purchased 2 Original Nissan bushings to put into my newly acquired 1997 J30 part # Nissan 54476-35F20

After pressing out the 2 old ones I found the new ones were to small.The ones that came out measured 69.5mm OD the new ones and the ones in my 1995 J30t are 64mm OD. per every were I look they should both be the smaller ones. I then purchased rods from some one parting out several J30s and 2 of the 3 rods he took off of J30s were 69.5 MM ones

After extensive hunting the 69.5mm is a Q45 with active suspension64MM is all J30s59.2mm Q45 non active

There are instructions on replacing the bushings here http://www.fuzzycats.com/j30_diy.htm under Tie rods

Thanks

There were different diameters for Q45, Q45t, Q45a, J30, and other Nissan models plus there were specials to correct caster problems [imbalance-drifting].

Most one just sees a few variations today since the entire assembly [metal arm and bushing] are replaced as one unit.

Important that the length from center of bushing back to mount bolts are equal side to side or the caster will be different.

Sometimes special mix and match were used by dealers/alignment experts to fix frames where caster was not matched after accident.

Cheaper to tweek a $100 part than rebend the front frame after a core support replacement.

Used cars are used and often very abused!
