Hey guys,

New to the board but was recommended by a guy from my Lex board.

My aunt just got a Lexus SC so her J30 (use to belong to my dad about 7 years ago) is now the spare car for anyone in the family to use. Infiniti had some problems though and the main one was the idle. You come to a stop in that thing and its like your in a dragster. Before I set up an account I was reading a post about an idle controler that is possibly bad? She also uses mid-grade so Im thinking that has caused problems to the car over the years as well. What is there to check for right away with the idle though?

Also the radio is out. This happened to us when we owned the car years ago and we took it to the dealer and they fixed it and sent it back. Do you think the same thing has happened again?

Thx for the help and look forward to posting here!

If the car is throwing a code, that would help. If not, it could be a number of things related to air or fuel. It could be the MAF, the ICV, the injectors, etc.

These radios are pretty unreliable. If you're interested, I have a spare radio for you.... Maybe we can work something out. PM me if interested.

Good luck.

Years of less than premium gas would definatly be an issue.Run some BG44k through it with a tank of premium gas.You will want to change the oil out afterwards FYI.

Thanks for the info guys! I would love to have this car as a daily for my BMW but odds are that wont happen for awhile so I would like to fix it up in the meantime.

Its a '94 so what would be the best way to get the error codes for it? Im gonna be out where its at this weekend and could run it down to Autozone and see what they say.

Pogophil its me Ed from bimmerboard! I knew your name looked familiar I need to update my sig for this place. Im gonna call the palce we went to just for laughs and see what they say about the radio. Just out of spite you know and if they dont want to do anything Ill see if someone wants to help pay for it. I would but since Im not driving it screw those guys! No Im joking. I honestly want to take it from my other aunts house and bring it home with me!

all right. thx man! ill print this out and take it with me this weekend and give it a try. I know she had two of the injectors go bad and something belt related went out when we had the car once. Im not sure what though. All I know is that it has caused a belt screech ever since and no one can seem to fix it!

Belt screech = loose belt. Probably the alt belt.

Ed! Good to see you here -- welcome to the board. I should have recognized the name the first time -- I see you all over Bimmerboard these days.

Loose belts are more prone to squeal at startup when the car is cold. Given that it's worse when the AC is on, it's probably the AC belt (which may also be the alternator belt as mentioned earlier -- I'm still on the learning curve myself). Sounds like it needs to be tightened. Same thing was needed on ours.

Good luck.

D'oh! Not the EGR, I meant the PCV valves were the ones I saw! They had oil all over them.

hey did you check for the codes on the computer? Some sensors on our car go bad and they don't throw a check engine light, so you need to pull them and see what you got.
