1994 Infiniti J30t A/C problem

Hi i have a 94 J30 sometimes when i turn the a/c (by pressing auto) on it just blows to the floor. My A/C works awesome and cold but i have narrowed it down to some sort of flap behind the dash that stays stuck. Now the problem is not always, it only happens sometimes (2 to 3 times out of 10) i usually have to turn on the auto button on and off several times before the flap moves to where the air comes out from the dash vents. When i do turn it on and when the air does come out of the dash vents i hear like a groaning sound from a flap that is trying to open (sound goes away once it starts blowing thru the vents) i want to know if anybody has ran into this. I believe seeing someone post something like this awhile back.

Mine is stuck on the defroster vents.
Over the years a lot of crud build up on the shaft, causing it to stick.
I need to find out if the mixer door is behind the glovebox or the center dash.
If its in the center I will just live with it.
