The difference between the valet key and the main ignition key is the long groove cut down the middle of the shaft of the key. The valet key doesn't have it but the aftermarket blank you can buy on ebay does. IIRC they're about $10-$12 shipped. Once you have a blank find a locksmith that's invested in the $5000 cutter that's needed to make the key and for another $30-$40 you'll have your spare.

I've only found one place in Sacramento that stocked the aftermarket key but have found at least 3 locksmith's that can cut the key if I supply the blank. It shouldn't be hard to do the same where you live.

For the diehards that must have OEM the other option is to supply the stealership with your VIN and they'll be happy to cut you a key for about $150-$200.

It might be worth calling IOS to see if they can have an original key cut from your VIN for not much more $$. I think it's a wise spend.

There are a few members that have run into issues using the "affordable after-market blank" for extended periods of time (years, not weeks).

What? Do you mean you don't have one of these :

I'm just teasing. I wish I did.

You can call the person Heath recommends if you want to go aftermarket:

I have been told that he can do magical things, like cut keys from a faxed copy of your existing key - but I don't know if that's true or not...

Heath
If you decide to go oem, you can order a new key based on the key code for you car. If you choose to go with an aftermarket key like Ilco (from eBay for example) it will look similar to this:

If you want an oem here are your choices if they are still available:

If you are extremely lucky you might be able to persuade Wes into selling you his prized possession:

Thanks for those P/N's Lino. I'll be checking on the price from IOS. Where did Wes get the uncut (President?) key?

It looks like I was mistaken about the square cut into the shaft of the key being the difference. It's the lack of a groove cut into the shaft of the key that makes it a valet key. I've edited my original post.

On one tiny subject maybe. After 5 years at Nico and 10,000 well researched posts you might actually say that.

Posting by itself offers little education! It is the HOUR of prior research on the topic before and after each post that yields the education.

FWIW, I have one of those uncut wooden Momo keys as well. And since I no longer own any Q's, I'd be more inclined to sell mine .
