I just got my Q a few weeks ago, and love every min. of it. Yesterday it got cold and I found need to turn on the heat. And to my suprise, it was not working.. I turned off the radio and heard a bubbling type sound fron behind the dash. I'm thinking that air is "stuck" in the heater core, thus no heat. I left the her on for about 10 min or so, but it did not get any better. How can I get the air out? Or is there something else wrong here??

Probably, but who knows if it is air in the heater core or a faulty heater door? Did you change your coolant fluid lately?

Might post in Infiniti Online Mechanic with a brief recent service history where most of this information is located.

Its probably a heater door.. Even in my Q which has a well maintained and clean cooling system i hear the gurgling, i think its normal to a certain extent.

Never heard it on any of the dozen or so Q45 I have been in.

I had heard about the radiator cap being bad, I will replace that. The noise I can live with, not having heat is another story.....

There is a NICO thread on do it yourself repair or we [T3 -ATL] can do it [replace door] for under $1000 [takes an entire day 12 hours]..........get quotes from local and Chattanoga dealers.

Not something techs like to do because the good ones can bill 14-15 hours in a day with multiple jobs.

I've heard it on maybe 1/3 of the Qs I've driven (a little over a dozen), including my last one.

To get rid of the air, I put the front on jack stands, opened the radiator cap, and let the car warm up while revving it a few times. Sometimes coolant would splash out, and I'd continue to top it off; apparently this helps to remove air pockets. I learned how to do it from a Nissan tech on NICO in an old thread, and it worked nicely.

I prefer Chrysler's method of offering a simple bleed screw.

Seems like that old TSB about coding the heater open may apply here, but I thought there is no valve to the heater core. Guess I'll have to dig it up.
