recently purchased a 1994 base Q sopmetimes while driving gthere is the odor of fumes in the passenger compartment, I was wondering if this is a failed converter, leaking manifold gaskets or some other issue, the car has 135000 and for all intents and purposes looks new.....the second issue everytime i go over a hard bump the driver side rear tire bounces like a basket ball..and finally, I like the Mp3 music format, is there a changer that is compatible with standard bose system that could be installed without changing out the entire stereo head? [email protected] for your assistance Billy

Probably leaking manifold gaskets as you suspect (exhaust fumes I assume, not gasoline?). New Tokico blues will help the ride a LOT, as will new bushings on the sway bar. Don't know about tying into the stereo, maybe try the audio forum for that one.

Shock replacement is often skipped as are bushing and other suspension replacements.

When ever you buy a 10 plus year old lux car even a 135k one assume you need to spend purchase price AGAIN on rehabilitation to return it to near new.........not all at once but as you discover the wear items.

Start with new Tokico blue shocks and new bump stops/dust covers and new front shock isolation top hats......then progress to new upper links, and swaybar bushings, transmission mount, engine mounts, exhaust hangers. About time for tension rods to leak again [should be on 2nd or 3rd set by now].

Why one gets an expert prebuy inspection from a non affiliated technican.......to compare needed expenditures to reduce asking price.

The seller knew it needed $3,000 why it was sold......he hopes you don't find out prior to purchase.

Some cars need much more than asking price..........not unusal as you get past 10 years.....when prices dip below 10% of new MSRP.

thanks for the information, I only spent 3200. for the car, which included a flight to New Jersey from michigan and the gas to get it back. There is not another car I could buy for this money, and have as much fun. apart from the two minor issues i've referenced the car is in great shape. I always have vehicles inspected prior to purchase.
