1994 d21 hardbody need transmission

My syncros are shot: I took my truck to PA to visit my parents for Thanksgiving and on the way up it started kicking me out of 1st 2nd and 3rd gear also making it very very difficult to downshift into 1st and impossible unless brutaly forced into 2nd. The syncros have were very noisey and whined alot be4 the trip but now its a pain to even drive the thing. Autozone sells replacement trannys for 1k but I really don't have that kinda money atm. My questions are as follows: does the older style single cam 240 or any 240 transmission mate up and fit? How hard are these things to rebuild? Is there anywhere else cheaper to get a new transmission for say around $500? If need be I can pull one out of a junkyard but I'm worried if I do that I won't be much better off. The truck only has 64k miles so I'm very displeased with this transmission. If anyone can help I need to get this resolved asap as this is my work/daily vehicle. Thnx -Rob-
