Heres a question. I just picked up a 1994 altima that has a repetitious clicking sound near the passenger side footwell/ center console area
Where-Behind the dashboard where the center console meets the glovebox,
What-theres a repetitive ticking sound it sounds exactly like a cassette tape stuck on play at the end of the tape , or in otherwords a small electric motor trying to move and ticking 3 or 4 times a second.
How-- the noise does not depend on heater/ A/C operation or anything with the radio. -It happens constantly when the ignition is on / car is running
I pulled a 2 pin connector with small wires from the passenger side footwell and it stopped the ticking, (none of the fuses I pulled stopped it)I pulled the center console and radio out but the airbag control module was blocking my view of it. I can feel it and it is hard plastic, rectangular in shape, about size and proportion of a Snickers bar though it isnt a Snickers bar!! and pushing on it supresses the ticking sound for a short moment.
It doesnt seem to affect anything while being unplugged. I just want to know what it is.
What is this ? does anyone have any parts diagrams or photos of what it looks like behind the dash so I can identify it?any ideas ?
