1994 Nissan 240sx Convertible.
What to know first-
-Original KA24DE motor 105,000mi, runs great. -Swapped auto to a manual transmission. Hybrid parts list... car is an S13. Transmission is from a 1998 240sx S14 (should be identical aside from the speed sensor which i succesfully changed). Driveshaft is from an S13 because S14 chassis is longer and didn't fit. All other parts and clutch/flywheel are S13.
I did the 5 speed swap 2 years ago. When I did it, I put in some ebay XTD clutch and the matching XTD 10lb aluminum flywheel. The system was easy to install, but afterwards (and I know how to break in a clutch) the clutch would shudder badly in low rpm's through gears 1, 2, and sometimes 3. Sometimes higher RPMs too but rarely. 8,000 miles and 2 years later (I rarely drive this car) I couldn't stand it anymore and I replaced the clutch with a Centerforce Stage 1 with the little weights thing on the pressure plate. And STILL I'm haunted by that f'ing shuddering, and now even in fourth gear sometimes. Usually though is only 3000rpms or lower. When driving hard, the clutch grabs well at high RPM.
Now... the shudder itself... I'm not talking a little chatter. The car bogs badly and WON'T GO until the clutch stops being a little *****, and a lot of the time you can smell what kinda smells like the transmission fluid when the shudder happens. Sometimes it refuses to engage well and I have to push the clutch pedal and try again. With an exhaust on the car... it sounds like I don't know how to drive a standard! It's embarassing!!!
Rarely, the car will drive through the gears at any RPM with NO PROBLEMS at all, and a lot of the time the shudder will stop after the car has been driven for a little while... and once in a while if the car is driving fine even for hours, the shudder will suddenly appear anyways. A couple weeks ago I made a 2 hour drive with NOT ONE issue at all starting from a cold start... and then lots of shudder a couple hours later on the 2 hour drive back.
ANY IDEAS??????? Thanks!
