I wonder is the 1994-1995 Q45 ECU redesign all in the software or hardware r both?

Would using the 1995 Q45 ECU program on a 1990-1993 Q45 ECU be as good as having a actual 1995 Q45 ECU?

Or is it that the 1994-1995 Q45 ECU had better hardware, faster CPU's than the 1990-1993 Q45 ECU?

Would using the 1994-1995 Q45 ECU program on a "slower" 1990-1993 Q45 ECU cause any ill effects? I ask this because I assume the 1994-1995 Q45 ECU program is better written to maintain idle....

Sorry to exclude 1996 Q45 ECU programs but they are OBD2 and will not work on 1990-1995 Q45's.

It wouldnt be possible, 90-93 have 8-bit processors vs. the 16-bit in the 94-96.

Its like running windows 2000(32-bit) on a computer that was designed in 1995-1998, windows 98 being 16-bit OS.

There would be no advantage even if it was possible, which it is not.

I've never tried it so I wouldn't say it won't work. The 90-93 ecu works in the 94 so it's a safe bet it would work the other way around.

The ECU programs are nearly identical so there would be no benefit I can see to do this. The only reason we use the 90-93's in the 94's is because the 8-bits are easier/cheaper to mod.

The Actual ECU's are switchable from a 1990-1995 Q45 Yes. But the internal software may not be like Carlos said, which makes a lot of sense.

But if what Shane says is true then it must be the hardware that makes the 1994-1995 Q45 ECU superior.

How would the NICO ECU program be affected if it ran on a 1994-1995 Q45 ECU?

I wouldnt think there would be any difference. If it came down to the 8-bit vs. 16-bit processor capability it would make any difference. Usually when you run a program, say 32-bit on a 64-bit Operating system/Machine, there will be no difference in performance. I dont know if the programs will be interchangeable, but really I wouldnt think there is any advantage.

Emission standards got more severe in 1994 thus the need for a smarter ecu, also the cats were changed to use a thinner comb.

I would be careful about using an earlier version ecu on later engine/cats.

Make sure the dead time is identical between 90-93 injectors and 94-96..........but new fresh O2 should be able to compensate? Who knows?
