Ok, I seldom have to ask but I could sure use some help on this one. I acquired a 93 240 sx that has been sitting for a few years. The person I bought it from said he thought it was an ignition coil problem. I had another car available that I could swap parts with so I went for it. Sure enough, motor would crank but I could verify that there was no spark.
I swapped the coil and ignition module. No luck.
I swapped the distributor with CAS. No luck.
I swapped the ECU. No luck.
I checked fuel pump and know it is working.
In the process of playing around with things I found a bad wire going to the MAF, but it seemed to be making contact. While I was playing with the wire and had it off (it is the white one) my wife cranked the car over. It started! It ran rough of course (limp mode), and wouldn't idle, but it ran with the wire off and there were no strange noises in the motor or timing chain rattle. Wow, that was good! :rotfl
I touched the wires for the MAF back together and the motor died like I had shot it! AhHa! Bad MAF... So I swapped out the MAF with a known good one. Same results  Checked ECU codes. I get a code 55, no problems! Now I am at a total loss. I can start the car but it doesn't run well enough to drive it. Anybody have any ideas??????????

Ok, found original problem. Swapped to second ECU (not the one that was in the car when I got it) Now it will run with everything hooked up, although it is running really, really lean. But I know the original ECU was the problem. It would run in limp mode but would not run any other way.
The poor old car is beginning to come to life! The fuel gauge has started working. The radio has regained it's lost channel. The ignition switch has quit it's occasional clicking without cranking. There is a leak in the front crank seal, not bad but enough to make things messy if left along. No water leaks. It has 3 gallons of fresh gas and a couple of bottles of fuel injector cleaner in it. It has ran long enough at one time for the engine to run at operating temperature for a while. Now I guess I need to start looking for vacuum leaks and clean the motor off so it is a little more pleasant to tinker with. A car that was purchased as a parts car now has a chance to turn into a daily driver!
