1993 Speedometer Jumping

Have a 1993 240sx SE, lately its started jumping the speed progressively normally it does not last more then 3-12 minutes at a time. I tightened all 5 screws Including the "10K" screw

that had happened to me , i fixed it by finding the wire for the speedo , and rewired it from the ecu to the cluster and it worked perfectly , u might have a short some were and its , messing with the wire

Did you change the face of your speedo? If so, you might have gotten the needle windings on wrong.

no I never pulled the needle off of it, was afraid to break the shaft (done it on Hondas) and like i said its not just off its progressive, the faster you go the more its off, IE: 35 =42 51 =98

Sounds like the speed sensor is out of whack or you have the wrong one installed for that speedo. What car did it come out of? All 240s I've ever worked on only go to 120 mph (91+) or 115 mph (89-90).

Seems this a weird car, or someone has swapped that speedo/cluster with that high of mph on it.

cluster was in this beat up non running car when I bought it from Twin City Nissan dealer auction in 2009, according to car-fax it was registered in FL from 94-03, then TN till traded in

First off, the cluster is not a usdm cluster. Notice how the tach goes to 9k? Only jdm or ausy Cars have that. Second, i highly doubt the speedo section is even from a 240.... 240 speedos go to 115 mph or 120. 180sx or silvia speedos go to 180 kmh so you have neither. Id recomend getting the speedo section out of a stock 240 And replacing that section. (keep the 9k tach)

only other odd things about car I havent seen in a S13 before was a 240sx specific bose system (non functional) and the optional accessory leather
