Good Day.. We own a 1993 Quest GXE. 3 times in the 11 years we have owned the car it will start but will not have enough power to get up to speed. Each time the dealer replaces the O2 sensor and all is well. The last time this happened, before I sent it to the dealer I unpluged the 02 sensor but it did not run any better. It still would start but not accelerate. My thoughts are that the vehicle should run reasonably well with the O2 sensor unplugged.

My guess is that the vehicle has a problem and the O2 sensor is correcting it 100% of the time. When the O2 sensor goes bad the problem shows itself and the vehicle stops running correctly.

Does this sound reasonalble. I believe the engine should be set up to run right with the O2 unplugged. Then when all is well it should be plugged in to fine tune. Is this the way it should be done?

When you say it doesn't get up to speed, do you mean that literally?(as in, no matter what, you can't get it up to 55-65mph). I assume you simply mean it has a noticable loss in power. Well without the O2 sensor plugged in, it should certainly be able to get up to speed, but with gas milleage taking a hit.

Has the dealer ever given you any more detailes on the O2 sensor failures? Perhaps the sensors are not being heated properly(it's a 4-wire sensor, correct?), and are prematurely failing. Also is it isolated to just *one* particular sensor [location]?

I'm sure someone else can chime in, b/c I literally know nothing about the Quests.

Cheers,Jamie
