I own a 1993 Q45t that I purchased new. Love the car and have babied it all these years. No one can believe it is 14 years old. Had a problem with the car alarm going off when you opened the drive door. Even if the door was unlocked. Took the car to the San Antonio, Texas Infinity dealer, Gunn Infinity. They fixed the problem after three tries. But now I have another problem, I cannot lock the driver side door with the lock switch on the inside driver door arm rest. In the past I have gotten out of the car, hit the lock switch on the arm rest, closed the door and assumed the car was locked. The dealer is telling me that, no that's not how it works. You have to hit the lock switch then hold the outside door handle up as you close the door to lock it. That does work but I swere that is not how it worked before they delt with the alarm. They have claimed that they have talked to their master machanic and he agrees with them. I say BS. The owners manual is no help. Is there someone out there with 93 Q45 that can verify that I am right or that I am a idiot who has been leaving my beautiful car unlocked for fourteen years?

could have sworn i've heard or even read it... i think it may be in the manual as you need to hold the handle up for it to lock

I no longer have my '94 Q45t, but as I recall, it would NOT lock if I used the inside door lock switch to lock the door with it open. I believe that's to keep you from accidentally locking your keys in the car. You must use either the key or the remote to lock the doors from the outside. Doing so also sets the alarm.

I haven't tried it on my '05 Q.

Maybe someone else here can shed more light on the subject.

On my '94 if the door is open when you hit the button it will lock and then unlock. The door has to be closed for the lock button to work.

Bull****.

You don't have to hold the door.

My 92 Q locks when i lock it. No handle holding necessary.

I need to get a keyless remote to unlock the car though. I hate having to use two keys to get in and start the car.

Sucks when you're drunk.

What are you? A DARE program?

Not once have I ever come close to damaging my Q while drunk. I'm not advocating drunk driving by any means, I'm just very good at it and very lucky.

I'm drunk while typing this, but i don't plan on driving tonight. (BTW, I only drive to the Wawa about a mile down the road, which is a straight line)

I do appreciate your concern about my Q though.

I have a '93 Q45You do not have to hold the handle to lock.

However, if you have the key in ignition switch, the door will not lock when you press the door lock switch.

Thanks for confirming what I can't seem to convince my idiot Infinity service is the reality of the lock operation. How about driving to Texas and show them how it works. Kidding, of course, but thanks for the reply.

Checked the manual. Manual does not say to hold the handle up. Unfortunately manual is not much help in this case.

I wonder if they replaced a lock component to fix your other issue, and the revised one has that "feature" built in? I doubt they could install something incorectly that would only have that "side effect"

I have had other cars that do that to keep you from locking your keys in, but after a while it just becomes habit and you still lock them inside... did it several times.

Of course, the ultimate answer is having a remote, so that you never lock the car unless the remote (and keys) are in your hand!
