My car just started stalling today when drive it feels like it wants to stall and at idle it can't stay on for more than 2 min.

MAF has SOME burning around the joints.

MAF connection fine (Wiggle tested).

FPCU fine all modes work.

Fuel tank is half full.

TPS (not that it has anything to do with it) is fine.

Alternator is confirmed OK.

Battery and connections are fine.

IAC valve is at 10%, Don't know the duty cycle (No real consult)

Do you think its the MAF sensor?

I will provide pics tomorrow when I replace the MAF with a know good one.

And to make my night worse some ******* in an Audi had the audacity to try and pass me, well the old girl kept together and did'nt let the ******* pass. Got to the light an obviously got me off the line cause I wasn't racing and I had the High beams all the way till he turned off. What nerve.

Drink yourself into a stupor tonight and don't worry about it until you swap in your spare MAF. If it continues with the spare MAF you've got a problem.

Seriously....How bad is the burning on the MAF pins? Aren't the MAF internal connections to these pins the ones that have solder joint problems?

I've got to ask...CEL on? Are you positive about the condition of the fuel pump and FPCU? It wouldn't be hard to look at the FPCU connector for signs of burning. Have you replaced either one with new/used units?

Well I went for a short drive to the store and nothing, no problem what so ever, its like it does'nt want me to fix it tomorrow.

But I was praying the whole time for the car to not shut off on me, because I did'nt want people to think it was a POS especially since I did'nt wash it (25* weather average)

Paul:

I had replaced my second MAF before I realized that there might be something else amiss with the unit. Thats when I removed the top of the MAF, peeled back the copper sheet and looked closely at the pins, where the plug attaches and realized that one of the connectors solder joint was faulty.

Got my trusty solder gun heated up and re-soldered all the connection and have not experienced any hesitation, rough idling, bucking, etc. since.

Total time to fix was 40 minutes and this can be done in the warmth of you home.

Good luck and don't fret.

In the 10 +years,200K miles, we have had 2 Q45a's (92, 94) never had ANY MAF problems. Did have a customers car (1) that went intermittent and that was cured by used replacement.

ONLY problem was early version fuel injectors failing when hit with high ethanol fuel here in Houston (some went to 22% by test). Never any coil, CPS, TPS, etc engine or fuel system problems.

DID replace fuel pumps when they got really noisy--noise was caused by corrosion right at the close clearance tip of the rotor in the pump--not worn bearings. Polished off corrosion and pump was quiet again.

DID replace OEM radiators with all copper ones after each developed sudden BIG leaks at end cap seal.

These cars have been as trouble free and reliable as they get.

I'm thinking that a lot of the problems we see in Q45's are weather related and the root cause could be a combination of snow, ice, salt, freezing temperatures, high humidity? Some parts of the country have all of this. You guys up in the Great Lakes area take a beating all year long. Am I dreaming or do the west coast cars have a lot less problems?

I have a good feeling Mike is right. It has to be the weather.Or does the Q have a mind of it's own?
