1993 Pathfinder shut down

1993 Pathfinder 3.0 liter made strange clicking sound and then shut down. the clicking noise remains when the ignition is turned on and engine won't start. suggestions needed.

I don't know how much better description I can give. I was driving down the street when I heard a clicking noise I had never heard before and then suddenly the engine shut down. Now it will only turn over but not start. After turning the engine over, I hear the same clicking sound that I had never heard before. That's the only description I can give because that's what happenned.

where is the clicking coming from? engine bay, transmission, transfer case, fuel tank???

It's coming from the engine compartment. It's very distinct and when I hold on to the fuel line I can actually feel it in my hand.

is the clicking most prominent when holding the fuel line?

when was the last time you replaced the timing belt, if ever? how many miles on the engine?

hate to say it, but it sounds like you may have lost the timing belt. it's an interference engine which means the valves hit the pistons when the timing belt lets go.
