1993 nissan sentra. big rattling noises when i turn on A/C

hi

i have a 93 nissan sentra with 130K miles. it runs pretty smoothly.

fan control works only when i put it at '4' (move all the way to right). don't know it stopped working at speeds 1,2 and 3.

also when i turn on A/C, it makes big noise. i feel the A/C coming out of vent though. what could be the issue? some belts gone bad or compressor?

it gives me about 29mpg on mixed highway/local driving. is that normal or bad mpg for this old car?

Most likely your blower resistor is gone. Have that replaced and then see if your A/C still makes noise when you turn it on. Is the noise coming from the dash/vents or the engine?

noise is coming from below the engine. nothing inside blowers.

Your 29mpg mixed sounds about right.

What sort of noise does the AC make? Could be the compressor.

it makes loud screeching noise. more when i am driving. when i turn on A/C when stopped at signal with engine running, it still makes same noise.

Check the accessory belt. Either it's bad or the compressor pulley is locked up, most likely.
