Recently had a behind-the-dash electrical short. A metal bracket had worn into some wires and smoked 'em, the car died and wouldn't start again. I took out the dashboard, repaired the burned wires, and tried to start the engine.

When I turn the key I get the usual beeps and dings. The motor cranks, but won't start. Battery is good. I did notice the fuel pump relay "clicks" rather loudly. It clicks twice per second or so. Click click click click... So long as the key is in the ON position.

Not hearing any kind of "whir" from the fuel pump. That seems a little odd to me.

So now I'm wondering if I have a bad fuel pump, or if the computer needs to be reset. So thought I'd go ahead and post. Any ideas?

UPDATE:

Tested the fuel pump relay. Works fine. Jumpered the connections for the fuel pump. Hummed beautifully. Did some reading, and came to the conclusion the fuel pump relay had a bad ground. Looked at the bundle of wires going through the firewall and said, "there's got to be a better way..."

So I spliced the ground wire from the fuel pump relay harness, and ran it directly to the engine block.

Now when I turn the key to the "ON" position, the fuel pump relay completes the circuit and the fuel pump hums like a champ.

PROBLEM: The fuel pump doesn't stop humming. I'm pretty sure it's only supposed to hum for 2 seconds to prime the engine and shut off.

So I'm obviously missing something. Question is what? Can anyone out there tell me what's going on? Is the ground from the FPR switched by the computer? Any help is GREATLY appreciated!!!

Thanks,
Jason
