whats goin on.i have a 240sx, and i've noticed that when i reverse i hear a grinding/rubbing noise that's soundin like metal to metal, so far i've checked all that i knew how to check and i've seen:1) no wheel rub from the 18x8 aftermarkets...2) no loose plastic components or anything that will rub (that i can see)3) no road debris trapped under the vehicle.

weird enough though, when i go into reverse, it almost sounds like it's somewhere in the right rear of the car. it's loud enough to where people outside the car hear it.

any pointers?

is it constant? ... most are known to just make a clunking noise when the gear like engages or something back there? ... but thats only for a second, not constant.

when engaging reverse, there's no problem there. but i hear the grinding when the car begins going in reverse. i wish i could record the sound cause it causes alarm fro me. i had a mechanic here in atlanta in the car while i was telling him about the problem, and when it made that sound he was like"holy shiz! THAT is the noise??" but he couldnt figure it out. i'm like almost wondering if there it either something with the rear diff or the right axle on the right side that's wrong, making the noise.

your brake pads may be worn? when mine went out they would only make the metal to metal noise when I would move in reverse... and it was one horrid noise
