I bought my 1993 maxima two years ago.Someone had put a trans in it just before I bought it.I put an External Cooler and Filter on the trans. for extra protection.I have changed the trans. fluid once again About 6 months ago.

My problem is I was leaving work drove about 500ft. out of the parking lot mashed on the gas a little to get on the main highway and the motor revs up.It will hold in park but no forward(D-D2-D1) or reverse action at all. I have been told there is a switch that went out inside the trans causing this. The linkage on the trans seems to be going thru the motion so I do not think it is the bushing in the shifter linkage like I have heard other people have had trouble with. Any Idea's? Thanks Awesome X

awesome x, i have the same problem with mine. mine shifted excellent. then one morning out of the blue wouldnt go into any gear. park would hold but wouldnt even change idle when moving in and out of gear. i hav checked everything on mine exterior wise, even changed transmission computer behind shifter console in car and no change. i pulled top of pan off of the top of transmission to check the linkage and i have watched it swivel, nothing appears to be wrong there either. good luck with your problem if i find out anything else ill let u know. please do the same if you can find out what it is. thanks mwdjr

hey guys , well im still having trouble figuring mine out. i do know that it is not my transmission control module, or the speed sensor. does anyone know what that piece is located beside the transmission pan on the very top center of the transmission. it sticks up about 2 inches or so, it has 3 bolts tying it down, with a snap ring in the middle of the cylinder shaped piece of metal. i took it loose and it has a long rod on the end going down into the transmission. it is manually run it is not electrical though. possibly affected by heat maybe?

I was reading the problems of the 93 Maxima transmission and my 94 Maxima has similiar problems except mine will go into all gears after sitting for a period (at least a few days) and then go back into the neutral state when above a certain speed (~50km\hr). Also, if I dis-connect the battery and allow the ECU to re-set itself then that seems to have a positive effect as well even though I can`t determine any fault codes. It has been suggested that the problem is in the valve body of the transmission. Another quirk is when the transmission is in the neutral state, the oil level in the transmission shows high on the dip stick but when it does go into gear the level shows normal for that period...go figure
