Please help me, replaced the alternator 2 days ago @ Goodyear. I was informed by them that I also needed a brand new battery. I did not want to purchase their battery after all I was still under warranty w/ walmart for the battery I bought just 2 months ago. Well, in 15 minutes after picking up my car I take it to walmart. The technician there informed me that the alternator is overcharging my battery and there is no need for a new battery. But the worst part of my ordeal is that since the repair the engine has been idling roughly. This was never an issue even up until the car stalled on me. Since they replaced the alternator the car vibrates so hard that my CD's and coins were rattling. When I turn the car on it shakes, when I put it in gear it shakes even harder. No shaking while driving but it is very bouncy when I come to a stop. My husband took the car back to them. They never jacked the car up , the mechanic just opened the hood and told him we have motor problems and to go to inifiniti dealer to check motor. The "check engine light" has never come on. When I open the hood I see the engine block shaking. Is it me or did they screw up my car? What should I have them check for? Help please, can't sleep over this .

Are you sure the rough idling and the virbration happen right after the replacement of the alternator? If you do, take it back to them ASAP and demand to talk to the manager or the district manager, have them fix waht they broke, the alternator alone can not cause that much problem, they must have screw up something else. Not a good time to be a nice guy anymore. Oh, one more thing, even the " Check Engine Light" isn't on doesn't mean it doesn't have code store in the computer, have them check it.

This sounds like something I have been going through with my car. It vibrates like it's cold and needs a jacket in the winter. The difference is that my check engine light did come on.Took it to the mechanic and he showed me that one of the pistons weren't firing due to a bad fuel injector. This is the second one that I have had in the last 4 months first the number 3 and now the number 5 I believe.

Welcome to NICO Ayajoy!!!

Did you replace your alternator with a Nissan OEM unit (new or rebuilt)? If not all bets are off!

There a literally hundreds of threads on this board (and others) of J30 owners going through many headaches caused by the installation of aftermarket alternators. The remedy in all cases has been to install an OEM Nissan unit.
