Hey guys i have a problem with my sunroof in my 1993 J30...the tilt function works fine but the open/close switch could be bad...when i'm opening it i have to pretty much hold the switch and assist the sunroof when its sliding...if i dont assist it, it sticks and you can still hear the motor going...what could this be?

Very common problem on J30s. The fuzzycat site has a procedure to fix it but it's a whole weekend job.

I would hedge a bet your J30 sunroof motor is nearly toast.

A dealer will charge you major $$$ to fix it. Lots of labour.

Its a DIY weekend job.

I believe the sunroof motor change is an easy job...it's located right above the light console above the rear view mirror...just a couple of screws and it pops out...Get one from a junkyard or check out car-parts.com...check out the for sale boards here too.

I'd like to take that bet.

I think the motor is fine but it's in need of the repair kit as shown on the fuzzycats site.

His motor is fine. It's the cable or clips or something else that is broken. My 93 had the same problem. It is not an easy job. Go the the fuzzycats site and look over the procedure.
