I have Security system woes once again on my 1993 J30 with 136k miles. Back in 2008 the Doorlock timer had been replaced with the upgraded or newer one as well as the door actuator on the drivers door just before I had purchased the car. The parts had been ordered from Infiniti of Japan so they were new parts.

Anyway the latest thing is that the remote is not responding and the dome light, ignition key light as well as the door key light on the outside door handles are remaining on. I would assume that they are on the same circut. It had done this one other time and I had reset the remote by removing the battery and pressing the lock button. I had then went back to the car and reconnected the positive battery terminal and started to tighten the terminals down I then heard the door locks click a couple of times and the dome light went out. But when it pulled this same thing again last night exactly the way it did before, The only way to turn off the dome light as well as the other lights that I had previously mentioned was to open the trunk lid. So does anyone have any ideas? Could there be a problem with the Trunk room switch wherever it may be located? Please help!!! :gotme  :wtf2:

Thanks

I'm having a similar problem where my dome & key light stay on. Everything functions normally while at least one door is left unlocked. But once all doors are locked, they stay on. I obviously don't want to leave a door unlocked all the time. Would this be a bad "doorlock timer"? Where is it located so I can inspect? Thanks!

Replaced a 1993 red or white? label door lock timer with a later year blue? label and had dome light issues until I removed the assembly and removed some paint to improve the ground connection. Believe internal door lock timer connections can be re-soldered.

Door lock timer is a grey plastic box with one connector leading to it and about the size of a cigarette pack. It's located in the vicinity of above the brake pedal and attached to a metal mounting bracket.

Dome and key lights should turn ON if either of the front door handles are lifted with the doors closed (locked or not) and dim slowly to completely OFF, after the all doors are closed or a front door handle is released. Haven't used a remote in years. Suppose the problem could be mechanical (one of at least six switches) or electrical.

Wingfeather,

The Remote Control Box was part of the problem that I was experiencing with the dome light and it's located the trunk on the left side just beyond the power antenna unit. I had to hit the local salvage yard to locate a working box. I got 4 boxes and only one of the four worked. Then of course I had to also replace my original theft control unit that it’s another box way far up under the dash mounted to the driver’s side steering column. The reason for replacing the Theft Control Unit was because once I had addressed the issue with the dome light, I couldn't get the programming sequence to recognize my remote or FOB. But not to say that you would have to replace your Theft Control Unit. But once ya have the security system and dome light working corectly make sure to follow the programming sequence for your Infiniti remote or FOB once you have replaced the remote control and or theft control units. The Remote or FOB programming can be easily acomplished without having to hit the dealer for your J30 by following the sequence precisely.

The door lock timer was an issue on 1993 & 1994 J30's and Q45's that the security system would "auto-lock" and "auto-arm" the security system and lock all the doors at the most inopportune times and ya best have the keys in hand or you are locked out! On my J, the door lock timer had been replaced just before I purchased the car by the previous owner. But from what I have understood was the door lock timer is located far up under the dash by the speedometer panel on the left side. If you replace the "door lock timer" make sure that if you obtain a door lock timer that it has the blue stripe and not the red one. The Blue striped one is the updated version that Infiniti/Nissan had released and that fixed the auto-locking and "auto-arming" security system issue. The door lock timer box is about the size of a cigarette pack and it’s a plastic battleship gray color. But if you replace the door-lock timer, like I said be mindful of the stripe on the box.

I hope that this answers your question an that I was able to help ya with your issue. I will say get to know your local salvage yards well unless ya want to pay dealer prices for parts and repairs. The salvage yards will become your best friend with a car like the J30. Sadly the parts; I feel may become more scarce and difficult to locate for the J30 as time goes on since the J had such a limited run from 1993-1997.

Yes :mike I completely disconnected the module in the trunk (as a temp fix). The dome & keylight now act as they should (both fade out & stay off) . My car battery thanks you!!!
